Association of Public Historians of New York State Legacy Project
The year 2009 marks the -
Hudson-Champlain Quadricentennial
Fulton Bicentennial
and the 10th Anniversary of the Association of Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS). To celebrate these landmarks, APHNYS is creating a legacy project to showcase the history of members' communities.
It has been said that the rich and fascinating history of New York State's villages, towns, cities, boroughs and counties are the threads that woven together create a tapestry of the Empire State's heritage. This thought gave birth to this Legacy Project: The APHNYS Heritage Quilt.
Every member of the Association has been asked to create a 12" x 12" quilt square representing their community. The quilt squares will be sewn into one magnificent quilt. Upon completion, the quilt will be presented to the New York State Museum for exhibit in the "People's Collection" commemorating these landmark events.
The Town of Huron is submitting the beautiful embroidery of the town seal or logo shown above. The embroidery is the creative work of Florence Chapin. The seal or logo depicts Lake Ontario with a sailboat off the shore of Chimney Bluffs with the name "HURON", all contained in the shape of an apple.
