Water District No. 7 - Progess of the Port Bay Water Project
June 14, 2010

Water District No. 7 - Progress of the Port Bay Water Project

Kim Park, Supervisor for the Town of Wolcott, gave a progress report on the joint Port Bay water project (Water District No. 7 in the Town of Huron) at the recent annual business meeting of the Port Bay Improvement Association.  While there had been uncertainty as to the availability of funds through Rural Development, Supervisor Park confirmed that they have now confirmed that loan funds will be available for the project.  In her comments, Ms. Park characterized the progress of the project as "fast tracked", suggesting that through the efforts of both Towns, the project has moved forward at a faster pace than is usual.  The Town of Wolcott, acting as lead agent for this project is currently focused on securing easements from property owners, necessary before work can begin:   She stressed the need for cooperation of property owners, particularly in areas accessed by private road - Thompkins Point Road and North Maple Road were given as two examples where the town was experiencing difficulty in securing easements.  While there are other measures a town can take to secure access to properties for the project, they are time consuming and add to the cost of the project.   Assuming there are no unforseeable delays, Ms. Park remains optomistic that shovels could be in the ground by early fall.  However, completion of the project would not be realized before sometime in 2011.
